Gregory Lauer

Gregory Lauer, a native of York, Pennsylvania, is the Director of Education at the Appell Center for Performing Arts and the Founder and Executive Director of the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra and Chorale. Mr. Lauer is the principal horn of the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra and principal horn and core member of the Maryland Winds. Lauer studied horn performance at West Virginia University under the late Dr. Virginia Thompson, and holds a bachelors degree from Fairmont State University. Mr. Lauer is frequently in demand as a music director, conductor, pianist, and judge throughout the East Coast.

As a horn player, Greg has had an extensive career performing with many orchestras including the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony, Fairmont Symphony, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, York Symphony, and many more. Greg’s musical gifts have given him opportunities to perform in London, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, China, and Hawaii as well as across the United States. Greg also served as principal horn on the 2019-2020 American Festival Orchestra tour to China. An active freelancer, Greg also plays horn and piano with several regional theatre companies and can also be seen on the Netflix series “House of Cards.” Greg’s private students have shown abundant success placing at local, regional, and national competitions.
