Brian Kaufman – Tuba

Brian Kaufman

As a tubist, conductor, and educator, Brian Kaufman has shared the stage as a performer and speaker alongside the likes of Pulitzer-Prize winning composer Gunther Schueller, Emmy-nominated composer and genre-bending violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR), the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, the American Brass Quintet, Glee pianist and music director Brad Ellis, the cult pop-rock band Tally Hall, and Her Royal Highness Princess Dr. Nisreen El-Hashemite.

Kaufman currently serves an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Maryland Baltimore County where he teaches tuba, coordinates the instrumental music education program, and directs the wind ensemble. He is conducting the UMBC Wind Ensemble in a diverse array of new American music that will be featured on their debut album. Kaufman is committed to exploring new and innovative formats for music performance, approaches to music learning, and ways that music can contribute to our society and world. His primary tuba teachers were Fritz Kaenzig and Toby Hanks, and his primary conducting teachers were Charles Peltz and Sarah Hicks. He is delighted to be a member of the Maryland Winds.
