David Hanner – Bassoon

David Hanner

David Hanner grew up in a musical home where musical performances were abundant and celebrated. He enjoyed a diverse free-lance career and was an instrumental music teacher before auditioning for a position in the Navy Music Program.

Service began in the Pacific Fleet Band in Honolulu, Hawaii and the Atlantic Fleet Band in Norfolk, Virginia. He won an audition for Naval Academy Band and performed in several ensembles including Concert Band, Chamber Winds Ensemble and Wind Quintet. He researched and documented the over 150 plus years of service.

Performances with other ensembles and venues have included Charleston Symphony Orchestra, La Orquestra Sinfonica Nacional de Nicaragua, Honolulu Symphony, San Francisco Ballet, Peoples Republic of China Tour (1987), Carnegie Hall, Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and The Kennedy Center.

He began playing the bassoon in the public school music program in the 4th grade. While in high school he studied with Dr. Harold Robison at Ohio University. He received a Bachelor of Music from The Conservatory of Music at Baldwin-Wallace College studying with Mr. Ronald Phillips of The Cleveland Orchestra. He earned a Master of Arts from the Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America, Washington D.C.

Mr. Hanner performs on a custom made Leitzinger Professional Model 1 Bassoon.
